How To Set Up A Profitable Blog

It’s been a while I posted, I am so sorry about this. I have been busy on some other projects.
The last time, we talked about how to choose a profitable niche, the next thing we’ll be looking at is to see how to setup a blog.

Choose a URL for your Blog

The URL you choose for your blog should be short, easy to spell and memorable. Some blogs have URLs that relate to their subject matter (niche) like Problogger.net, Copyblogger.com, SEOMoz.org, Entrepreneurs-Journey.com and some use their names like PrinceSioni.com, JohnChow.com, SethGodin.com, others use unrelated ‘nonsensical’ URLs like DoshDosh.com, Mashable, Dullest.com, AWalkInMyShoes.com. Whichever name you choose, make sure your readers can relate with it.

Register your Blog’s Domain Name

If you really want to use your blog for business and you want to make money from it, I will advice you register a domain name for your blog straightway. There are cheap domain registrations these days. You can actually register a domain for under $10. Check for the availability of that domain using GoDaddy.com or Jumpline.com and register the name if it’s available. Choose a new URL for your blog if your choice domain name is not available.

Host your blog on a reliable webhost

It is advisable you host your domain on a paid-host. Although, there are free webhosts like wordpress.com, blogger.com; it is a better choice to pay a few dollars for webhosting. Free hosting have some limitations while self-hosted gives you total control of your blog and it makes you look professional.

Choose a blog software

A blog software is a software designed to simplify the creation and maintenance of blogs. A blog software allows you to author and edit your blog posts and comments. There are so many blog software you can download for your blog. I use Wordpress and I recommend Wordpress for you. Wordpress is an open source blog software with thousands of themes and plugins to choose from.

Creating and Setting up a Wordpress account

Creating a Wordpress account is as easy as ABC. All you need is your email address. Visit Wordpress.com, click on the ‘Sign up now’ button. Enter a username (use your URL name or any related name), password and email address and submit. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen and your blog is ready!
